About the activity:

Set off from the hotel in Cusco towards Ollanta station to board the Expedition train to Machu Picchu. The 48-person coach comes complete with spacious leather seats for maximum comfort.

All seats feature individual dining tables and panoramic windows to enjoy the awesome scenery along the way. Our carriages are also equipped with air-conditioning, anti-impact and UV protected glazing. Along the journey, we offer passengers a tasty selection of sweet and savoury snacks, fruits and a variety of cold and warm beverages.

Upon arrival to Machu Picchu town, a tour rep will take you along via bus to the “Lost City of the Incas” which was discovered by American explorer Hiram Bingham in 1911. Located on the left bank of the Vilcanota river lies the wonderful old city of Machu Picchu, which in quechua means “Old Mountain”. According to research, Machu Picchu would have been one of the vacation residences of Pachacutec, the first Inca emperor between 1438 and 1470. However, some of its finest buildings and the evident ceremonial purpose of the main access road to the village, proves that it was used as a religious shrine.

Machu Picchu is considered both a masterpiece of architecture and engineering because of its unique architectural and landscaping features. The Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial and the Burial Grounds are the most prominent constructions. Your guide will tell you everything you need to know about the splendid citadel, which is a truly amazing experience! Depending on the train times, you can enjoy a delicious lunch either before or after the start of the tour.
